Biology, Nutrition & Physical Education
The Biology Department provides transferrable core curriculum courses which support students across multiple academic and technical disciplines.
Exceptionally qualified and dedicated professors assist and direct students toward the completion of their coursework and help guide them in their career paths.
A large number of our students who complete multiple courses in biology often pursue careers in nursing and allied health, education, or transfer to universities.
Programs & Activities
- Biology Bootcamp
Get a head start in your General Biology 1406 class by attending a free Biology Boot Camp.
- NSF Scholarship Program
Houston Community College offers the National Science Foundation – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship (STEM) program.
- Genetics Research Skills
In collaboration with Texas A&M University and the USDA, HCCS is currently conducting a program through which genomics concepts and hands on research skills are introduced to all general biology and genetics students at the Northwest College.
- Tri Beta Honor Society
Beta Beta Beta is a professional honor society for undergraduate biology students. Students conduct research, attend conferences, and participate in community service activities. Research awards and travel grants are available.
- Bridging the Gap to the Baccalaureate Degree Program
Bridging the Gap is a 10 week summer program conducted at Prairie View A&M University. Selected HCC students will receive a stipend to participate in and conduct research.
