Talents or Hobbies, or Something People Don’t Know About You
I love to travel and have been to 42 countries on seven continents.
Why did you enroll at HCC Coleman College?
After doing research, I found the Respiratory Therapy program at HCC Coleman College had an exceptional pass rate for the national board exams. Plus, the class sizes were small, which meant I could get personal attention from the professors.
Why did you choose your program of study?
I have three friends who are respiratory therapists, and they LOVE it. They encouraged me to research the career and program because I want to help people.
I also looked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics and saw how much of a need exists in the United States for RTs and how much they make compared to how much the degree costs. RTs have job security and great pay in relation to the cost of the education.
What do you like best about your college experience?
I really love my professors! They genuinely care about me and my success.
What do you like best about your program of study?
I can directly help patients using the knowledge I gained from HCC Coleman College. When I make a suggestion to a physician and that suggestion helps the patient … there’s no way to describe how great it feels. My program gave me the confidence to speak with other medical professionals and recommend treatments to help the patient.
When you are tired, what motivates you to push forward?
I look at Indeed.com and see all the jobs available in my field, and it reminds me that this degree will open doors for me. I just have to put the work in.
What advice can you offer to help other students succeed?
Study to learn, not to recall. Connect your real-world experience to what you learn in class and relate what you learn to what you already know.
Any final thoughts?
This program challenges and changes you, but all for the better. Also, remember that the patient in front of you is someone’s mother, daughter, son, or husband. That will motivate you to give the highest quality care you can.
