United Way Women Rock Childcare Scholarship Deadline May 20, 2024

The United Way Women Who Rock Scholarship covers childcare costs and other critical resources to support parents who are committed to continuing their education beyond high school. Recipients of this scholarship are provided financial and employment coaching.

The United Way Women Who Rock Child Care Scholarship has supported more than 140 parents as they have pursued post-secondary education and has celebrated 25 (and counting!) graduates.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarship covers childcare costs for parents pursuing post-secondary education. This includes bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, and professional certifications.

Scholarship recipients must meet the following criteria:

• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
• Have attained a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Participate in an interview process with the Women Who Rock Scholarship Committee
• Provide copy of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) award letter.
• Live in our four-county service area (Montgomery, Waller, Fort Bend and Harris)
• Applications will be accepted through May 20, 2024.

Parents who are awarded scholarships commit to:

• Partnering with United Way to select their childcare program.
• Keeping their United Way liaison updated on their progress.
• Participating in financial education classes.

• HCC Title IX-Support is available to students who are becoming parents through childbirth, adoption, kinship placement, and/or foster care placement, and may be approved to support ongoing and/or changing needs. Pregnancy Support

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including pregnancy and parental status, in educational programs and activities. 

We care about your success! Students are not required to inform faculty, staff, or other employees of their pregnancy or related conditions. However, to receive approval of an accommodation/modification, the student will need to inform an HCC official with authority to evaluate and approve the request. To ensure timely processing of requests, students are encouraged to seek assistance as soon as they realize that they will need an accommodation. 

HCC provides reasonable accommodations to students who are pregnant or have pregnancy related conditions. Accommodations can assist the student with on-going support and/or need-based support. Examples of accommodations can include, but is not limited to, a larger desk, option to make up a missed exam, restroom breaks, and other reasonable accommodations because of your pregnancy. Accommodations can be approved for pre-natal doctor appointments, childbirth, false pregnancy, miscarriage, any other pregnancy-related health issues and/or recovery from any of these conditions.
